The General’s Army Captures Vernon’s Lakeside Music Factory Spotlight Honors for August 2021
Our August 2021 Music Factory Spotlight performer is no stranger to the Cedar Creek music scene since the successful opening of Vernon’s Lakeside in June of 2019. The General’s Army has been bringing their unique blend of Texas style blues, soul and R&B wrapped inside a juicy nugget of Jazz with just a hint of Dallas rock almost monthly since the beginning.
Band leader Carl Bush, largely self-taught since the age of nine, learned the proper bass guitar techniques in the style influenced by some of the early and more current great bass players including Marcus Miller, Willie Weeks and Bootsy Collins. And, as a side gig, he picked up some expert keyboard skills on his own that come in handy from time to time.
Carl turned professional around 2000 and has entertained audiences ever since. Notable engagements include sharing the stage in Nashville, TN with legendary Blues singer Johnny Taylor shorty before he passed away, David ‘Fathead’ Newman the famous sax player at the Aquarius Club in Ft. Worth, and playing in Maui at the Fleetwood Mac Club with Stevie Wonder’s backup keyboard artist, Fulton Tashombe. Carl also played numerous times with the Texas Flood Band at the popular Keys Lounge in Fort Worth and RL’s Blues Palace in Dallas.
Carl joined up with the North Texas Allstars around 2014. The Allstars were regulars at the Tavern On Main Street in old downtown Richardson, Texas where they played up until about 2020.
They became known as the Dallas area ‘go-to’ band for bringing their own blend of blues, soul, R&B, funk, rock and country together in a mixed blend to the delight of regular, repeat audiences and newcomers alike. After a long run with the Tavern, Carl formed a new, three piece band out of the North Texas Allstars, in 2016. Now called, The Generals Army, the band includes guitarist Texas Slim and Harold Walker, the drummer and lead vocalist.
No stranger in front of sophisticated jazz, blues or R&B audiences, The General’s Army has been a repeat performer for years at Dallas Lakewood area’s The Balcony Club.
The Balcony Club is known as a landmark Jazz & Blues destination with a reputation for some of the best performers in the Southwest.
And, if you had ever dropped in at Vernon’s former Addison, Texas venue, the very popular Vernon’s Gastropub before they relocated to Cedar Creek Lake, chances are you might have seen The General’s Army perform there also.
So, your next chance to catch The General’s Army is THIS FRIDAY August 13th from 6:30 to 10:30 pm. Be sure to come early to get a good table!
