Dickeys-Barbecue-Pit-Old-Central-PhotoIn 1941, Travis Dickey opened the first Dickey’s Barbecue Pit location in Dallas, Texas. At the time, the store was basically a barbecue stand as it only had three school desks for seating and the remainder of the guests had to stand. It was a family operation with a limited menu, but they shared a love of authentic, Texas-style barbecue, original family recipes passed down from generation to generation and a side of southern hospitality.

His sons, Roland and T.D. Dickey, took over the business in 1967 and were instrumental in not only continuing, but furthering their father’s legacy of mouthwatering, slow-smoked signature meats and delicious original side dish recipes. To meet the demand of an ever-growing legion of loyal dine-in customers, Roland and T.D. expanded throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area, but their decision to add catering to their dine-in and take-out options expanded the brand awareness of Dickey’s Barbecue Pit throughout the great state of Texas and beyond.

Once thought to be strictly regional cuisine, Dickey’s Barbecue Pit and their customers proved otherwise when they successfully introduced slow-smoked Texas barbecue nationwide by franchising in 1996.

Legit Texas BarbecueThe family tradition continued when Roland’s son, Roland Dickey, Jr., became Chief Executive Officer in 2006. The brand has come a long way from Travis Dickey’s first location in Dallas, Texas. What started out as a passionately run small family barbecue stand in 1941 has grown to more than 500 locations across our nation and recently opened their first international Dickey’s Barbecue Pit.

We still serve up the same mouthwatering Texas-style barbecue and original family recipes when we first opened our doors for business in 1941 and it still comes with generous helpings of southern hospitality that our guests have grown accustomed to over the last 78 years.

We’re excited to make it easier and more convenient for our guests to purchase our barbecue products and original recipe side-dishes at supermarkets, specialty stores and online.
