Mabank High School sophomore, Riley Thompson displayed poise and true East Texas talent with her original tune performance of “Oh Daddy” Sunday night on ABC’s popular hit TV show American Idol.  The sixteen-year-old singer/songwriter/guitarist appeared in front of a live audience and three-judge panel including Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie who were impressed with her performance, sending Riley off with a golden ticket to Hollywood for another future appearance on the show.

By all accounts, at just 16-years-old, Riley Thompson is fresh on the music scene with a unique voice necessary to the country music genre today. Thompson’s most notable experience to date has been competing in the Texas Music City Songwriter Competition where she finished in the top five with two of her songs written in the same week they were performed.

Several popular Cedar Creek Lake venues have recently begun showcasing local talent including the Cedar Creek Opry, Twisted Sisters Wine and Finds and the Cedar Creek Brewery.  Robert Keller, with Forty-Seven Entertainment, manages many of the local performers, including Kadie Lynn, a recent winner on NBC’s America’s Got Talent.  During my interview with Robert today, he said, “It’s just amazing and we’ve been so blessed that we’ve had so many talented young people from this area become recognized and successful. We have a three day festival featuring many of our local, talented performers at the Cedar Creek Brewery beginning this Friday March 15  through Sunday March 17!  And, now, I’ve just booked Riley Thompson for her first Cedar Creek Brewery performance coming up on April 12th!”

Well, if you’re like me, you agree that there’s truly something special about life on the lake here at Cedar Creek Lake.  And, who knows, perhaps there’s really something in that old myth where people claim that maybe it’s something in the water!  Congratulations to Riley and all of the up and coming Cedar Creek area performers!
